Join the Cambodian Association of Greater PhiladelphiaJUNTOS and the New Sanctuary Movement in their support of humane immigration reform.  They are calling on those who stand with immigrant families, students and parents, workers and neighbors, to sign a petition for the passage of HR 4321 and to join them in urging US Congressman Robert Brady to pass this important piece of legislation.   They will be meeting at United COmmunities, 2909 S. 8th St in South Philadelphia at Tuesday February 2nd at 10am.

Fire Fighters in Pennsylvania Win Cancer Presumption Bill

Fire fighters across the state of Pennsylvania won a major victory this summer. The fire fighter cancer bill, HB 797, which designates cancer as an occupational disease for fire fighters overwhelmingly passed the House and Senate, and on July 7th, was signed into law by Gov. Tom Corbett.

National Nurses United and their allies rallied today at the New York Stock Exchange. During the rally they demand a tax on Wall Street transactions. This tax they declare will ensure that "the yo-yos that buy and sell this country pay their fare share" to heal America. 

Teachers speak out against layoffs

Hundreds of teachers and workers rallied at the School District headquarters on Monday to protest massive layoffs and testify at the meeting of the School Reform Commission.

Close to 1,500 teachers and 3,000 school district workers received layoff notices last week. The School District says it has to cut the jobs to close a budget gap.

In this video, two recently laid off teachers speak about how the cuts will impact students.
